The Bible

We believe the entire Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God and that human authors were inspired by the Spirit of God to write them.Therefore we believe the Scriptures are infallible and inerrant in the original writings and are the final authority on all matters of faith and practice.

The Trinity

We believe in one God, the Creator of all things, who exists eternally in sons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – co-substantial in being, co-eternal in nature, co-equal in power and glory, and possessing the same perfections.

Jesus

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He became flesh to reveal God to the world and to become the Saviour of lost humanity. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless human life, and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

Missions

Participate in the mission of God by fulfilling the Great Commission through evangelism, discipleship, and mission (Matthew 28: 19-20)

Be and develop disciples of Christ by maturing in God through the commitment to the study and application of God's word (2 Timothy 2:2)

Our History

Rev Dr. Tissa Weerasingha became the Pastor of Calvary Church in 1975, at which time it was a congregation of about 70 members, although it had been in existence since the early 1950’s. Calvary Church has now grown into a network of churches in Sri Lanka and beyond.

Based on solid Biblical teaching, with an emphasis on evangelism and phenomenal local stewardship principles, this ministry has outgrown two buildings and is currently in the midst of a multi level building project with a spacious auditorium.

Calvary International Ministries was birthed out of a Word to ‘sow beside all waters’, and brought a global vision to the ministry. Many short term missions followed, resulting in ministries being pioneered in other parts of the world.

Calvary Theological Seminary, the training arm of Calvary Church was also begun when the need arose to train and equip new workers in theology and practical ministry, as well as the Scriptural principles on which Calvary’s ministry is based.
