Chief Pastor
Rev. Dr. Tissa Weerasingha
Since 1975, Dr. Tissa Weerasingha has been the Chairman and Chief Pastor of Calvary Church, an indigenous church planting movement which has a network of churches in Sri Lanka and many overseas countries. A local church with a global vision, Calvary Church is currently in the process of building a multi storey facility in Colombo, which includes a 5000 seat auditorium. Dr. Weerasingha’s international teaching and preaching ministry has focused on local stewardship, expository preaching, leadership training, personal evangelism and discipleship.
Dr. Weerasingha is the Founder-Principal of Calvary Theological Seminary, which was established in 1983, and the Founder-President of Calvary International Ministries. For several years, he hosted ‘Hope for Today’ a weekly television program, which was broadcast in Sri Lanka, as well as in Europe. He has authored many books, tracts and training resources, including the 2000 page ‘Concordance to the Sinhala Bible’.
He obtained his BTh. from Seattle Bible College, Washington, and MA. from Fuller Theological Seminary, where he won the Best Thesis Award in 1983. He has a MSc. in Applied Psychology from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and DMin. from Westminster Theological Seminary, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Weerasingha is married to Margareta. They have 3 children and 6 grandchildren.
