PAM Consultation, Japan.
The last 2 weeks I have had the privilege of ministering at mission conferences and churches in
Nagoya, Osaka and Hatan, Japan. First, it was the Pentecostal Asia Missions consultation where
there were leaders from 17 nations. We met for the specific purpose of taking concrete action
to increase missions within Asia as well as engage the churches in mission from Asia. Asia has
been at the receiving end of mission for long. Now it is our turn to return the favor! It was very
inspiring to minister alongside of people such as Pastor D Mohan from India and Pastor Asa
Kain of Bangladesh. We also ministered together at the 10th World Mission Conference of Charis
Chapel in Hatano. These were explosive meetings with many commitments to service. Japan is
in for big days of revival in the next decade.
I also ministered at Pastor Akihiro Mizuno’s Christian Life International Church in Nagoya.
Pastor Mizuno is one of the most respected Pentecostal pastors in Japan and is the interpreter
for all the major crusades and meeting speakers in Japan. He has a dynamic church, and Pastor
Mizuno is an exceptional leader. It was a pleasure to minister there, and also at his Bible school
and the conference for pastors. When I was in Osaka city, I ministered at The Lord Jesus
Christ Church, pastored by Pastor (Ms) Midori Okubo. She was a professor of Literature at the
university before she came to Christ and obeyed the call to enter full-time ministry. What a
joy it was to be there. While there she wanted me to pray the ordination prayer for 2 assistant
pastors who were being set apart that Sunday. That indeed was special. Most churches in Japan
are rather small in comparison to the numbers we are familiar with in our part of the world.
But, their zeal, devotion and discipline is exceptional and exemplary. In punctuality, precision,
excellence, hospitality and devotion, few can match them. We have many things to learn from
them. I was humbled by the wonderful way they treated me.
Japan’s Pentecostals are expecting to be a great missionary force in the coming days and they
want to partner with other Asian countries. This is the time for all of us!
